I am honored and excited that my one-minute memoir was picked for Brevity’s Podcast contest! We were told that they picked from over 300 submissions.

You can listen to the entire podcast or skip to minute 34:50 to listen to my story being read by an actor. I’ve also copied it below if you prefer to give it a read.

Brevity Podcast Episode #10: One-Minute Memoir

What You Don’t Know

Dear barista, TSA agent, taxi driver, lady standing behind me at the grocery store, and everyone else that feels the need to inquire – PLEASE stop asking me if I’m pregnant. It’s taken me years to get comfortable with my body, and you asking if my extra pounds are a baby growing inside me isn’t only rude, it hurts my feelings. Every time I have to come up with a way to tell you that I’m just a little fat, wrenches at my self-esteem, and I stay awake at night replaying our conversation over and over again. But more painful then constantly being reminded that I could lose 20 pounds, is the fact that my husband and I have been trying for 4 years and 3 months. It still hasn’t happened, and you, dear stranger, don’t need to remind me.
